It started raining on us in the 9th inning so we decided to head out to the car. We thought they would cancel the fireworks, but they still had them. Lucky for us, by going to the car, we got a front row seat. All of these pictures were taken while sitting in the car.

I recently found out that there was a functioning Drive-In Theatre in Goochland. Only about 15 minutes east of the West End of Richmond. So… I had to go, especially with the convertible. Here are some pics

Here’s the obligatory screen holding pic ; )

Uh oh, the movie’s starting… While the theater does show current movies, we were there on retro movie night. I’m not sure if they always start with cartoons, but this night they did.

One of the cartoons was a Dick Tracy episode. It was SUPER politically incorrect. The above picture is Tracy’s man on the ground “Joe Jitsu.” Complete with Kung Fu knowledge and stereotypical L/R speech impediments.

I absolutely had to include this as well. It’s called the “Goochdog” and is the concession stand specialty. And yes, it is a hotdog WITH macaroni and cheese.

The Jefferson Hotel opened in 1895 and is a great example of the Beaux Arts architectural style. The brainchild of Lewis Ginter, the hotel was built to be one of the grandest hotels in the South, and has become an integral part of the social and cultural history of Richmond. It’s even been rumored that the staircase that Scarlet walks down in Gone with the Wind was modeled off the grand staircase in The Jefferson.

Here is a marble statue of Thomas Jefferson in the lobby.

At his feet is this bronze alligator. The Jefferson actually had live alligators living in it’s lobby fountains until 1948 when the last one died. But they are still a large part of the lore of the Jefferson.

So I made my first trip to Atlantic City. I wasn’t ready to go head first into gambling, so I took some time to check out the sights. Here are a few things I felt were worth sharing…

We stayed at Harrah’s. It’s a little far off of the strip, but probably one of the most impressive hotels in AC

The big thing at Harrah’s is the pool. At night they turn down the lights, bring in the bars, and turn it in to a club. Here’s a shot as the sun was setting.

Here are some pics of the board walk from one of the piers. You can see Bally’s and The Wild West in the background.

In case you didn’t know this, the board game Monopoly, was based off of the streets in Atlantic City. Along the board walk, there is a marker at each street with the name and a little bit of trivia. Here’s a shout out to NC!

Atlantic City has one of the coolest mall’s I’ve ever been into. It’s connected to Bally’s, and built on top of a pier. As you walk in, there is this awesome fountain with real sand and sea water. All through the mall are these other great seating areas with lounge chairs and beach sand.

At the end of the first floor is this large fountain complete with choreographed light and music show.

The second floor uses blue ceiling lights to give you an “under the sea” kind of feel.

The third floor food court has some great restaurants. Check out the typeface for the Continental Diner!
